AI Technology Disclosure
This disclosure explains how Psychiatry Today uses artificial intelligence in clinical care. This document is informational. It is not a substitute for our HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices.
How We Use AI
Psychiatry Today uses HIPAA-compliant AI technology during medical consultation and care. Specifically, an AI scribe generates clinical notes based on conversations between you and your clinician. This allows your clinician to focus on you, the patient, and less on documentation.
How the AI Scribe Works
The AI scribe listens to the conversation during the consultation and generates a written summary, or "note," based on what was said. That note is then reviewed and approved by your clinician before it is added to your medical record. The tool assists your doctor, nurse practitioner, or psychologist in data collection and note-taking.
The Limits of AI
The AI scribe sometimes assists in identifying potential medical conditions, but the final diagnosis and treatment decisions are always made by a licensed medical professional. AI does not prescribe, diagnose, or treat. Clinicians do.
Potential Risks
- Inadvertent errors in transcription or interpretation of health information.
- Potential — though highly unlikely — breaches of data security.
Rigorous protocols are in place to manage these risks, including HIPAA-compliant infrastructure and clinician review of every AI-generated note before it enters your record.
